To be honest, it was kind of hard to get past the lead of this story. I am not afraid of big words or technical language, but this was a little excessive. I have found that a ongoing trend in print as well as broadcast media's coverage of the budget show down. Let's just be real the American budget problem is a little too complicated for John Doe off the street to understand. The good journalist would seek out a way to figure out how to

D.C. Mayor Arrested...I Say Good Job
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110412/ap_on_re_us/us_budget_dc_anger
This was a good article that seemed to depict both sides of the argument very well when it would have been easy to sway to one side or the other. The author was keen to point out the validity of the mayor as well as the reasoning behind why Congress did what they did. I liked this story because too often we find political figures arrested or in trouble for doing stupid stuff. This was just an old school protest that made a modern day statement. Good job, Mr. Mayor. I, though it doesn't really matter, approve.

Japan, What a Mess
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110401/ap_on_bi_ge/as_japan_earthquake
I think this author does a really good job of keeping things as simple as possible. There is a lot of stuff going on over there and the reporter gives as concise and put together information as they can. In a tragedy that involved a tsunami, an earthquake, and now a nuclear disaster there are so many different, multifaceted angels to cover.

Hillary, Hillary, Hillary
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110317/ap_on_re_us/us_clinton2nd_term
I must say I have not always been the biggest Hillary fan. No one however can deny her brain and her tremendous success. She has turned the perception of what women can do upside down. She has arguably been the closest woman to sitting in the oval office ever in history. And here she announces in 2012 she is done. She even says she will not be defense secretary or consider the vice presidency. Here, me, a not Hillary fan thinks Madam Secretary why not? Run the army? That would be awesome. There has never been a woman lead the armed forces of the United States. Then again, she is tired she survived eight years as a first lady, eight as a senator from New York and is now the top diplomat in the the U.S. She is tired. So, Hillary, you will probably never read this, but I am sad. You could do it. You could be president (I probably would not vote for you), but you could be. This guy is sad you are not going to at least try. The author did a great job simply reporting the facts with no opinion thrown in.
I will miss you Mrs. Clinton. I cannot believe I just said that.

Did He Win?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110311/ap_on_re_us/us_wisconsin_budget_unions
They wouln't show up and vote and now the govenor of Wisconsin claims victory because the collective barganing agreement has gone through. This is interesting. Because the Democrats are now sending the issue to court. It is funny how stories can take one angle and completly miss the bigger picture. I still stand on my opinion though. Wisconsin senators, DO YOUR JOB.

New Travels So Fast

I wanted to use this story as an example of how fast news travels these days. It is utterly amazing that something that happened in the wee hours of the morning thousands of miles away is at our finger tips. The internet is truly the future of mass media. If people want our generation to be more informed on what is going on, feed us by giving us more RELEVANT information like this.

Wisconsin Democrats Continue their Child's Play
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110225/ap_on_re_us/us_wisconsin_budget_unions
Wisconsin Democrats continue their juvenile act this week. The interesting thing to me in this article was when the Democratic leader of the Wisconsin legislature said the only person that could end the fight was the Republican governor. The ironic thing here is the fact that the all the Democrats fleeing the state could stop it to if they would simply stand up and let the democratic process be what it is to be. When you are voted against, accept defeat. Al Gore is not president, he accepted defeat. He went on and is living his life and does not go around parading around the fact that he should be president. Child's play, that is exactly what it is. Move on Wisconsin, move on. Grow up and move on.

The Biggest Dog in the Fight
http://news.yahoo.com/s/time/20110218/wl_time/08599205264500
To me, the violence that is happening around the world in Egypt, in the island nation in this article is something I can't wrap my head around. I mean, why is it o.k. when you don't agree with something to start shooting and drop tear gas. But then one with an American societal stand point can't judge someone where their government does the same back, or even instigates the force. So, ethically one (meaning I) struggles with the right course of action. Ghandi and Martin Luther King, Jr. where advocates of nonviolent protests. They seemed to work for them (well, most would say that). But, it has to be hard. What is the right thing to do?

Aren't We Suppose to Be Grown Ups?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110218/ap_on_re_us/us_wisconsin_budget_unions
My first thought when reading this article is really? I mean how old are you? Aren't you suppose to be a professional? Politics is so much like a play ground brawl it sickens me. Its like the poor kids who didn't get enough attention in elementary school are running the government. Besides that, when someone takes an oath of office it is my opinion they don't get to simply bow out when the going gets tough. So, not that you will read this, but Wisconsin senators, go back to work. Even if your bill gets defeated take it like a big kid and move on. George Washington didn't quit at Valley Forge. That is if they understand that reference.

Barbara Bush Supports Gay Marriage.....AND?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_theticket/20110201/ts_yblog_theticket/breaking-with-her-father-barbara-bush-voices-support-for-gay-marriage
I feel sorry for Barbara Bush. Even when your Dad is no longer president your political opinions get doused just because of your last name. Do I believe in gay marriage? No, but, Barbara Bush has a right to an opinion. She owns that right. The quote they used from her mom was interesting. I applaud her for taking a step away from her parents beliefs. Now if only some Kennedy's would do that (jk. lol.)

Egyptian Violence
http://www.voanews.com/english/news/middle-east/Internet-Shut-Down-as-Egypt-Braces-for-Huge-Protests-114786364.html
Violence in Egypt is escalating as protesters mount an assault to over throw the thirty year rule of their president. I learned some good things from this article. First of all, I editorialize a lot. Let's just be honest. This author, however did an excellent job of keeping the writing to simply facts. Though the reader may draw conclusions from the quotes the writer published, the writer remains neutral. Secondly, the writer gives good back story. Explanation is given about the current situation in Egypt and the past situation. The writer does a good job of explaining who the people quoted are and why the information being given maybe particularly relevant. Lastly, though I do not believe journalism is a dieing art, I do believe the internet is the future of journalism. It was so cool to be able to read the article and have an interactive option to watch videos and other things as well.
